NMES training for those who want to advance their rehabilitation

For Those Ready to Take the Next Step in Their Rehabilitation

Are you struggling to activate the right muscles?

Does it feel like your strength isn't returning despite training and rehabilitation?

NMES (Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation) is a rehabilitation and training method that helps activate muscles that can be difficult to engage through conventional exercise alone. By combining electrical stimulation with active movement, we can improve muscle activation, strength, and overall function.

NMES training may be right for you if you:

  • have reached a plateau in your rehabilitation

  • struggle to activate the correct muscles

  • want to rebuild strength after an injury or surgery

  • experience muscle weakness or reduced function

  • would like to complement your rehabilitation with targeted muscle training

Personal Guidance Every Step of the Way

All NMES sessions are conducted one-to-one with a Personal Trainer, ensuring the correct technique, appropriate resistance, and progression based on your individual needs.

How It Works

You'll perform active exercises while using an NMES device. The combination of electrical stimulation and movement helps the muscles contract more effectively while providing valuable feedback to the nervous system, promoting improved muscle recruitment and function.

Your Program

We recommend a minimum of five Personal Training sessions, during which we will:

  • assess your current condition

  • improve muscle activation

  • rebuild strength step by step

  • monitor your progress over time

Our goal is to help you regain strength, restore function, and rebuild confidence in your body and your training.

What is NMES training?

What is Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES)?

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) is a training and rehabilitation method that uses electrical impulses to activate muscles. Electrodes are placed on the skin over the target muscle, and the impulses cause the muscle to contract—similar to the way the brain naturally sends signals to muscles during movement.

What is NMES used for?

NMES is widely used in rehabilitation, strength training, and muscle activation to help restore strength, function, and movement.

The method can be used to:

  • support rehabilitation after injury or surgery

  • reactivate muscles that have become weak or difficult to engage

  • complement strength training

  • improve muscle activation and neuromuscular control

  • promote recovery and restore function

Can you exercise with NMES?

Yes. NMES is often combined with active exercises to enhance muscle activation during training.

NMES may help you:

  • activate muscles that are difficult to recruit voluntarily

  • improve strength and muscle control

  • train with less stress on the joints

  • get more benefit from certain rehabilitation exercises

NMES is not a replacement for traditional exercise, but it can be a highly effective complement when the goal is to rebuild strength, improve function, or progress in rehabilitation.

What does NMES feel like?

Most people describe the sensation as a rhythmic or pulsing muscle contraction.

  • The intensity is individually adjusted.

  • The treatment should not be painful.

  • It may feel unusual during your first few sessions, but most people adapt quickly.

Frequently asked questions about NMES training

Here you will find answers to the most common questions about NMES, how the treatment works and who it is suitable for.

What is NMES?

- NMES stands for Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation and is used to activate muscles using electrical impulses. The method is often used in rehabilitation when it is difficult to make contact with a muscle through regular training.

Who can benefit from NMES?

- NMES is often used for people rehabilitating after injury or surgery, but can also be a support when muscles have become weak or difficult to activate.

When is NMES used in rehabilitation?

- NMES is often used when a muscle is not activated optimally after, for example, surgery, injury or longer periods of inactivity.

Does NMES hurt?

- Most people experience NMES as a clear but pleasant stimulation of the muscle. When you move, you feel the stimulation less, it feels more like you are exercising properly. The intensity is always adjusted to your comfort and needs.

How does NMES treatment work?

- Electrodes are placed on the skin over the muscle to be trained. The electrical stimulation is often combined with active exercises to improve muscle activation and function.

Can NMES replace regular exercise?

- No. NMES is used as a complement to training and rehabilitation, not as a replacement. The goal is to help the body regain strength and function more quickly.

How many treatments do I need?

- It depends on your goals, your injury and how far you have come in your rehabilitation. We always make an individual assessment.

What types of conditions can NMES be used for?

- NMES is often used in rehabilitation after surgeries, knee injuries, muscle weakness, sports injuries and other conditions where muscle activation is impaired.

Can NMES help after knee surgery?

- Yes, absolutely. NMES is very effective after surgeries!
