Reformer Pilates
One Pilates apparatus that has become increasingly popular in recent years is the Reformer. It is an exceptional piece of equipment that can help you take your training to the next level by building strength, improving body control, and increasing flexibility.
Reformer Pilates allows you to activate multiple muscle groups simultaneously, challenge your body in new ways, and explore movements and stretches with greater depth and precision.
The Reformer is one of Joseph Pilates' most well-known pieces of equipment. It was originally developed to help practitioners better understand and apply the principles of the Pilates method. Although the Reformer is often presented today as a training method in its own right, we see it as a natural part of the complete Pilates system.
At Fit to the Core, you don't just train on the Reformer. We also teach using several of Joseph Pilates' other original apparatus. Each piece of equipment has its own purpose and contributes to developing strength, mobility, balance, coordination, and body control. Together, they form the method Joseph Pilates himself called Contrology—the system now known around the world as Pilates.
For us, the Reformer is therefore not a separate fitness concept, but one of many ingenious tools within the original Pilates method that continues to be used and appreciated today.
You can train on the Reformer in our classes:

Here you'll find answers to the most common questions about Reformer Pilates in Malmö, how the training works, and who it is suitable for.
What is Reformer Pilates, and why do people train on a Reformer?
Reformer Pilates is a form of exercise performed on a Reformer machine that uses springs to provide both resistance and support. The training improves strength, stability, mobility, and body control while remaining gentle on the joints. Many people choose Reformer Pilates to improve posture, balance, and athletic performance.
Can beginners do Reformer Pilates?
Yes. Reformer Pilates is suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners. Every exercise can be adapted to your individual level and progressed as you become stronger.
What is the difference between Reformer Pilates and Classical Pilates?
Classical Pilates is primarily performed on a mat and with smaller pieces of equipment, while Reformer Pilates is performed on a Reformer machine. The machine provides both resistance and assistance, allowing the exercises to be adapted to different abilities, needs, and goals.
Why do we teach Classical Pilates?
At Fit to the Core Malmö, we follow the Classical Pilates method developed by Joseph Pilates. The Reformer is one of several pieces of apparatus within the system and is used together with the principles of the method to create balanced, sustainable improvements in strength, movement, and body control.
Is Reformer Pilates good for back pain and posture?
Many people experience improved posture, reduced pain, and better body awareness through regular Reformer Pilates practice. The method focuses on strengthening the body's stabilising muscles and promoting healthier, more balanced movement patterns.
How often should I practise Reformer Pilates?
Many people notice results with just one class per week. For faster progress, we recommend attending two to three sessions per week. Regular practice can improve strength, posture, mobility, and overall body control.
Can Reformer Pilates improve my athletic performance?
Yes! Many athletes use Reformer Pilates alongside their sport to improve stability, mobility, balance, coordination, and body control while helping reduce the risk of overuse injuries.
How is Reformer Pilates different from gym training?
Unlike traditional strength training, Reformer Pilates focuses on how the entire body works together. It develops strength, mobility, balance, coordination, and body control simultaneously. The springs on the Reformer provide both resistance and support, allowing every exercise to be tailored to the individual's needs and ability.
